How to Run World of Warcraft (WoW) on Ubuntu Linux

World of Warcraft also known as WoW is the most widely played online multi-player network game. According to my little knowledge there are over 4 million players registered on the Blizzard network who play WoW. The game is developed by Blizzard Entertainment and is only available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS operating system. The users of Linux are quite dejected with that. But now I can give you a solution to run WoW on Ubuntu Linux.

I came across an application called “Wine HQ” which enables Linux users to run Windows applications. Obviously not as good as you can run in Windows, but still you can play a little with your windows apps in linux with Wine. Wine was developed back in 1993 but due to the limitations on the Windows API the developer team could not do more. The latest version of Wine is released on 22nd January 2010 which had alot of bug fixes and allows you to run a lot of more Windows Apps.

How To Run WoW on Ubuntu:

Install Ubuntu Linux
Install Wine from Ubuntu Software Center (Applications -> Ubuntu Software Center). OR you can download it from http://www.winehq.org
You cannot install WoW in uBuntu so you need a preinstalled WoW in any of your partition.
Simple locate the WoW.exe file, which is the main executable file of WoW, right-click on it and choose the option “Open With Wine Windows Program Loader”.

What are the responsibilities of a SQA Engineer?

SQA stands for Software Quality Assurance and is a very important part of Software Development Life Cycle. SQA is a process to test and verify each piece (module) of software according to the ‘requirements’. A person who performs testing is known as a SQA Engineer.

The responsibilities of a SQA Engineer start right from the very first development process of the software. Basic work flow starts when requirements are being gathered from the client. It is the responsibility of a SQA engineer to point out all the functional and non functional requirements. When a module is developed by the development team (Developers), it is given to the SQA team to test and verify it according to the requirements.

The SQA Engineer then make test cases corresponding to the requirements and performs testing. It is also the responsibility of the SQA Engineer to test the application against the requirements in order to check the application response. An SQA Engineer should have the ability to test the application in such a way that application fails, because it actually maximizes the product quality and hence minimizes the risk of product failure. The issues (if any) are then sending back to the development team for correction. This is the way SQA process continues till the complete development of the software application.

Advantages of Google Public DNS

Google has introduced its own new free public DNS server service to all the users on internet. The system is named as Google Public DNS. The basic reason for the development of Google Public DNS server is to design a server that can provide comfort to all users for web-surfing practices more rapidly, safer and trustworthy.

Speed: Server-side cache is sometimes neglected which is one of the primary reasons to slow down the speed of DNS reaction. This problem can be removed by introducing clever caching practice that helps add to the speed-up DNS reactions. Same clever caching practice has been introduced in Google Public DNS. It outfits pre-fetching process i.e. before the TTL on a user request expires; the system refreshes the record consistently for a large number of trendy domains. This allows Google Public DNS to serve many DNS requests in the round trip time it takes a packet to travel to the servers and back.
Security: Google Public DNS server provides the maximum security to all the users by implementing a new security protocol named as Domain Name System Security Extensions Protocol (DNSSEC). Using this protocol makes the service providers need to take additional measures to keep their caches protected. Overall this makes a user request more difficult for hackers and attackers to spoof valid responses by randomizing the case of query names. Also Google Public DNS includes additional data in its DNS messages.
Validity: Google Public DNS acts in accordance with with the DNS standards and gives the user an accurate and to the point results a user expects without blocking any piece of information or filtering the searched information, and provides no redirection that may slow down a user’s browsing experience.
Performance. Google Public DNS outfits “smart” caching to increase the speed of responses. It separately resolves the domain names and keeps the resolutions in the cache until their time-to-live (TTL) expires, at which point they are automatically refreshed. The cycle of caching and refreshing is performed offline, asynchronously with user requests, so that responses are almost always available directly from cache.

A month ago Microsoft released their new version of operating system, “Microsoft Windows 7″. Now after just one month of time people are curious to know how would the next version of Windows look like. So far in the history of Microsoft after Windows 98 the best operating system had been Windows XP. Now after the launch of this new Windows 7 operating system people are quite happy with the performance.

I don’t know who exactly is the guy putting this video over the YouTube, but he gave seriously a very nice conceptual design for the next version of Windows which is codename “Windows 8″

How To: Windows Live Download, Offline Installer

Windows Live which includes; Messenger, Mail, Writer, Photo Gallery, Movie Maker, Toolbar, Family Safe and Silverlight is installed using an Online installer from http://download.live.com. Many people don’t like this way of running the installation process online. Rather they prefer to download everything before and then install it from their own computer.

So, I tried to figure out how to get the offline installer and finally got a way.

Windows Live Download – Online Installer downloads a 1mb file.
Windows Live Download – Offline Installer downloads a full setup file of 134mb in size.

Simply goto http://download.live.com and click the Download Button. It will take you do the next page, simply CANCEL the popup of download box that you get. Now on the right panel you will see the “TRY AGAIN” button. Click on it, and get the Offline Installer. Yes, this is it – So Simple

How to: Windows Live Messenger Appear in Taskbar of Windows 7

Today I finally installed Microsoft Windows 7 Ultimate and enjoying it. The only problem that was annoying me was the Windows Live Messenger in Windows 7. When I used to login/run Windows Live Messenger, it used to appear in the full start menu bar instead of going down in the task-bar near the clock. The huge tab of Windows 7 was disturbing me when I was running lots of applications.

So after a little hanky panky I figured out how to make Windows Live Messenger appear in the task-bar (near clock) instead of appear in the full start task-bar.

How to send Windows Live Messenger in Task Bar With Clock in Windows 7:

Close Windows Live Messenger.
Start.
Right Click on Windows Live Messenger.
Click on Properties.

Click on the Compatibility Tab.
Enable the compatibility check-box and set it to Windows XP Service Pack 3.

Click Ok,
And now Enjoy Windows Live Messenger

Google Chrome OS, Will it beat Microsoft Windows?

Google today announced officially the launch of the first Operating System by Google called “Google Chrome OS” and yes, its an Open Source Operating System. It is designed specially for the netbooks, as Google see an avalanche of netbooks coming into the market in the coming years. Google Chrome OS will be able to run on any x86 machine as well as the mobile AMR processor. Further Google said that the final version of the OS will be available in the market by the second half of year 2010. Google said that all the applications of Google Chrome OS will be web-based.

What will be the expression of Microsoft after this? Well, as the Google Chrome OS new is just out in the market few hours ago, so I cant tell you about the Microsoft’s response to this news yet. TechCrunch a very famous blog wrote “Google Drops a Nuclear Bomb on Microsoft, and it’s made of Chrome“. Well certainly that is a nuclear bomb explosion for Microsoft. But do you really think that Google Chrome is a threat to Microsoft Windows?

Google Chrome cannot be a threat to Microsoft Windows initially. The reason that I can think of so far is, Google Chrome will need at least 2 years after the launch of it to get mature. Google just cannot come up with a final release at once. Yes, You must have noticed that Google Mail (GMail) just came out of the BETA phase, after like 3 years of it. So to foresee the things, I don’t think Google Chrome OS will get out of the Beta until year 2012 at least. Google Chrome OS is a windowing platform over Linux and most amazingly all the Google Chrome Applications will not be just for itself. The applications will run on any operating system including Microsoft Windows, Linux, Mac OS, etc. (lol, yea that’s a little relief that Google gave to Microsoft)

Google has officially started asking the partners to put their hands in with them to start the application development for their new Google Chrome OS.

Will Google Chrome be a threat to Microsoft Windows?

Talking about the threat to Microsoft, with support of my above mentioned reasons, I don’t think so that Google Chrome OS will be any threat to Microsoft. Initially Google is just targeting the Netbooks. So it will at least take 2 years for them to make this netbook OS a mature one, and after that they will put their hands on the real x86 platform operating system.

Microsoft has therefore setup a help page for Windows XP virtualization. You need to download a specific program to first check whether your system is capable of running it or not. Intel based processors and AMD processors both has a separate way to diagnose. This diagnose test will let you exactly know about the compatibility of your processor with Windows XP More.

Lim said that he made this Application for his younger sisters who are 3 and 5 years old. Doodle Kids is an Application for children who likes to draw and paint. Doodle Kids allow you to draw/paint using your fingers and then to clear the screen you need to shake the screen.

Microsoft confirmed that Windows 7 will have six different versions. Ok now I again wonder what is Microsoft doing? Didn’t they learnt something from the past? They purely messed up their repute with the Windows Vista so many versions and now they are trying it again.

Windows 7 Home Basic
Windows 7 Home Premium
Windows 7 Professional
Windows 7 Enterprise
Windows 7 Ultimate

Ok seriously dude! a layman will get extremely confused that which one to try. Ok one more thing, Windows 7 Ultimate is the one which has everything in it. So why would someone buy the other versions? Come on, People need everything in one why would someone go for the Windows 7 Starter?

Market: Worldwide availability this time but with new PCs only

What’s missing: Volume licensing

For those few customers who simply must have everything, Windows 7 Ultimate offers all of the features from Enterprise but loses the volume licensing requirement. So you can think of Ultimate edition as Enterprise for consumers (and other retail customers).

Windows 7 Ultimate is kind of a wild-card. It will be available at retail and with new PCs, but Microsoft suggested that it will not be heavily marketed and will instead be “offer-based” via occasional promotions and offers from both PC makers and retailers.

“We’re experimenting with the kinds of offers we can make for Windows 7 Ultimate,” Veghte said. “It’s going to be a low-single digit run rate (i.e. low market share) product. We expect retailers and OEMs to occasionally offer Ultimate with new PCs as part of special promotions. But in terms of run rate, it will be a tiny, tiny percentage of the volume. We will keep the marketing energy on Home Premium and Professional.”

Microsoft Office 14 Screenshots

Microsoft’s upcoming new version of the Microsoft Office is called Microsoft Office 14. Some people also predicts that this new version will be called Microsoft Office System 2009.

This new version of Microsoft Office will contain:

Access 14
Excel 14
Groove 14
InfoPath Designer 14
InfoPath Filer 14
InterConnect 14
OneNote 14
Outlook 14
PowerPoint 14
Project 14
Publisher 14
SharePoint Designer 14
Visio 14
Word 14

Microsoft Office 14 will be available for BETA testing to the public by May 2009 and will be having its final release somewhere by the end of year 2009.

MSGPlusLive Beta compatible with Live Messenger 2009

Its been five days now and still there is no clue about the launch of the MSGPlusLive’s new version for Windows Live Messenger 2009. MSGPlusLive is an add-on to the Microsoft Live Messenger (formally known as Microsoft MSN Messenger) which gives a lot of new features to you for chatting. Yesterday Patchou updated the beta version only. Patchou didn’t release the version 4.8 right away and wanted to have some testing before releasing the final version of MSGPlus Live for the new Windows Live Messenger 2009.

Patchou posted on the news section yesterday that he had only updated the Beta version of the MSGPlusLive 4.8 to be supported with the new Windows Live Messenger 2009 (also known as Windows Live Messenger 14).

MSGPlusLive provide many useful features such as:

Chat Logs
Messenger Skins
Tabbed Chat Window
Custom Sounds

… and not to forget the Polygamy feature which allows you to run as many Windows Live Messenger as you want.

Google Toolbar 5 Beta for Firefox Released

Google has updated the Google Toolbar for Firefox with its new version Google Toolbar 5 Beta. They have introduced four new features with this new toolbar. The most attractive one is the Notebook feature. It is specially good for bloggers and students or research workers. You can collect articles and stuff through this Notebook and then can use it later. Google team say “Clip and Collect Information” about this new feature.

If I’m not wrong I guess this same feature is introduced by the new Microsoft Internet Explorer 8.0 beta. Microsoft IE8 has a similar kind of feature called “Accelerators” in which you can simply select the content of any website and on a right click you can directly post it to your blog or search it with different search engines or Wikipedia. I guess Microsoft got the break through here with that feature. Microsoft IE8 is still in the beta phase and MSIE 8 was delayed for its release because Microsoft wants their new IE8.0 to be the ground shaking web browser.

by saving your settings online.
Clip content as you browse the web
