Sony is Crazy – Comparison Playstation Move, Nintendo Wii & Microsoft Kinect

Sony did a comparison of the three new generation game playing console/add-on, i.e. Sony PlayStation Move, Nintendo Wii and Microsoft Kinect. I am sure, whoever in Sony worked out on this comparison didn’t knew he is making it against their own self. Dear Sony, Microsoft Kinect does not have a controller so it does not need a “Rechargeable Battery” Here is the comparison of all the three:

How to Run World of Warcraft (WoW) on Ubuntu Linux

World of Warcraft also known as WoW is the most widely played online multi-player network game. According to my little knowledge there are over 4 million players registered on the Blizzard network who play WoW. The game is developed by Blizzard Entertainment and is only available for Microsoft Windows and Mac OS operating system. The users of Linux are quite dejected with that. But now I can give you a solution to run WoW on Ubuntu Linux.

I came across an application called “Wine HQ” which enables Linux users to run Windows applications. Obviously not as good as you can run in Windows, but still you can play a little with your windows apps in linux with Wine. Wine was developed back in 1993 but due to the limitations on the Windows API the developer team could not do more. The latest version of Wine is released on 22nd January 2010 which had alot of bug fixes and allows you to run a lot of more Windows Apps.

How To Run WoW on Ubuntu:

Install Ubuntu Linux
Install Wine from Ubuntu Software Center (Applications -> Ubuntu Software Center). OR you can download it from http://www.winehq.org
You cannot install WoW in uBuntu so you need a preinstalled WoW in any of your partition.
Simple locate the WoW.exe file, which is the main executable file of WoW, right-click on it and choose the option “Open With Wine Windows Program Loader”.
There you go, enjoy!

OnLive Cloud Gaming, No Need To Buy Gaming Consoles

Yes! The title says it all! Steve Pearlman is back in the news with his new OnLive cloud gaming technology. At GDC ’09 Steve Pearlman came up with his new cloud gaming OnLive service. Steve Pearlman was the person who sold the WebTV technology to Microsoft for around US$400million but it eventually died. The new concept of OnLive is a new gaming experience which will put an end to the gaming console market. Sony Playstation, Microsoft XBOX, Nintendo, all would be doomed by this new technology. After the could computing technology now its the time to have a real cloud gaming. OnLive is launching on 24th March, 2009 (1hour 30mins from now at the time when I posted this article)

Just like the Internet@TV, now you can play games online with OnLive. You need not to buy any gaming console and the OnLive cloud gaming technology is platform independent, which means it does not matter if you are using Windows operating system or you are on a MAC. You just need to have an Internet connection to play games on OnLive. It comprises of an online community where you can browse number of games, subscribe to those games on an affordable charges and there you go! Experience all the games on OnLive. Users can play the games with their keyboards, mouse or they can buy the OnLive Microconsole which has an HDMI port and is connected to your LCD TV.

For the normal gaming experience you need to have a 1.5mbit Internet connection for the 420p gaming, whereas a 5mbit connection is required for the 720p gaming. All the games are hosted and served at the OnLive gaming server and the user does not have to install or download the full game. Whereas a very small add-on is downloaded to your computer which is just about 1MB in size to enable you to play games on OnLive.

Atari, Eidos, Codemasters, Electronic Arts, Epic, Take-Two, THQ, Ubisoft and Warner Bros have already confirmed their availablity with OnLive and the rest of the companies are coming soon. Now imagine you can play Crisis on your netbook or even on your Macbook. The above video shows the experience of Onlive Cloud Gaming. 60fps gaming is possible with OnLive but I would not say its exactly the same experience as you get on Xbox360 or Sony PS3, but still its way good.

Electronic Interactive Cube Puzzle Game

The electronic version of Rubik’s Cube was a great addition to puzzle games. Now ThinkGeek presents you with the electronic cube puzzle game which is looks great and promises to be a good time pass. The puzzle game comprises of 4 cubes, each with a electronic display. Every puzzle cube comes up with a separate image, then you have to arrange all the cubes and join together to make the full image. There are about 600 puzzles which this cube game offers, the arrangement of how the next game will be is random. Sometimes you will get a image to solve and the next puzzle can be word to arrange. There are 300 image puzzles and 300 word puzzles in it.

Each cube of this gadget has 4 magnetic connectors which then connects with others to form the puzzle solution.

The dimensions of an individual cube is 2.625″ and takes 2AA battery to run a single cube. The electronic games comes up with a back-light option so you can even play it when your room lights are off, and they come up in different color lights. This new electronic puzzle game is a very good toy for nursery children so that they can learn the language and the identification of different animals and stuff.

This is one thing i really want for myself too,i haven’t rock climbing ever though.

The Climbstation for sure is one thing that every kid in the block would be looking for,and could be in future times be the most exciting toy for a kid.Having said that this stimulator is dangerous,if you think it can’t give your the ‘real’ feel then you are wrong.

Its a 30×4.8 in dimension and it moves with different speeds selected by the user.It has some really cool features,there is a user interface which tells you how much time you have spent – your calories burnt – how much hight you have climbed etc.There are seven different tracks from which you can select.It also has a challenger mode in which there would be a certain time you have to beat.

The climbstation comes up with safety pads,control unit and a software for single user.The colors available are gray,white,black,blue,green,yellow and red.

Razer’s new Mamba gaming mouse

Razer announced their new gaming mouse to be released in Feb. 2009 called “Razer Mamba“. This new Razer is a successor to the DeathAdder and Copperhead mice. The best part of this mouse is that it is wired and wirelesss mouse both. You can attach the cord to it to make it wired or you can use it wirelessly at 2.4ghz wireless technology. It has this 7 meters long wire which makes it feasible for the gamers to have the wired mouse for better sensitivity of the cursor.

It is a 5600DPI laser mouse, teflon feet, on-board memory, battery-life indicator, DPI indicator, and the batteries last for upto 72hours (depending on the usage). This new Razer Mamba gaming mouse will be available in the market somewhere in Feburary 2009 for only $129.99

In the Xbox Live presentation by Microsoft during CES2009, Microsoft announced a new marvelous feature about Xbox. In mid of year 2009 a new social networked platform will be out in the market called “KODU“. With the help of KODU, children and even adults can build their own games and sell it. I was first shocked to hear this that Microsoft is letting people earn and Yes! Microsoft is letting us earn money through gaming.

A 12 years old girl named Sparrow came on the stage and created a game (thought she was quite fast and experienced in making the game and made all of there laugh because none of them understood what was happening). She right away created a game and played with the presenter. The last statement by the presenter was, ”Microsoft will connect your gaming experience”.

Microsoft XBox Live Future in 2009

At CES2009 today Microsoft presented the new upcoming features of XBox Live. Microsoft has already sold 17 Million Xbox Live across the world till year 2008. The upcoming title of Microsoft Xbox’s most astonishing game “HALO” will have two different kind of games.

HALO Wars – which is a stretigical game, not the one you have already played. It will be available in the market by Feb. 28th, 2009.
The other title is HALO 3 ODST – this is the known type of game that you have already experienced in the previous version. It will be out in somewhere Spring 2009.

Xbox is no more the only gaming console. Microsoft is making Xbox more of a social network. Microsoft is starting a new kind of thing on Xbox Live, called “Xbox Prime Time”. Xbox Prime Time is a channel, where people can play games in a gathering. Your friends, family, children all can play a single game at a time. The demo game that they showed was the “1 vs 100″, which was just like a famous reality TV show “Who will be the millionaire”. All the audience in the game were also the players.

Further Microsoft got around 35 studios working with them for making movies and videos. Microsoft Xbox as earlier said, is not just a gaming console anymore. You can view High Definition movies via streaming from netflix. The premium members can browse and view the movies through their Xbox Live. There are around 12,000 TV Shows available to view and are fully interactive so that you can pause, stop, rewind, forward the scenes. And yes you can even sort out your show queue though your Microsoft Mobile enabled handset!

On the other hand Xbox has become a very big source of music downloads. Over 60million songs had been downloaded through Xbox Live till now. Big bands like Metallica, ACDC and others are getting online with Xbox Live to create their social circle.

The most fascinating part of the presentation was about the Xbox Live KODU in which you can create your own games and sell on Xbox Live.

EA hired director of movie “300″ to make Video Games

Zack Snyder, the director of movie “300″, agreed to work with Electronic Arts to make three video games. Zack Snyder is given the post of Creative Leader in an EA Game-Making team, Los Angeles; where Steven pielberg is also working on his video game for EA.

The title of Steven Spielberg video game is “Boom Blox” which is also the production of Electronic Arts.

The financial details where not released and it is said that EA will hold the intellectual right of the game. But later the game title will be released as a movie too by Zack Snyder.

“I think video games are cool because they offer an opportunity to tell a story in an entirely unique way,” Snyder said in a release. “Being a long time fan of the games EA creates, I look forward to collaborating with them.”

Snyder’s films include “The Dawn of the Dead” and “300.” He is currently working on a film based on a “Watchmen” comic book series.

“Zack Snyder has a fresh and bold creative style that resonates with our core audience,” said EA games label president Frank Gibeau.

“Zack is the perfect partner for joining us in creating powerful new interactive fiction.”
